Development Touch Festivals
A Bucks Touch is one of the largest touch clubs in Singapore. We are looking to provide an opportunity for clubs, schools, colleges, and those new to the sport to develop their skills with us and gain experience by playing other teams.
From September 19th through to 21st November 2009, we will be holding weekly touch "festivals" open to ages 14 and above (lower age groups may be allowed if competitive). The event will take place on Saturday afternoons (approx 1-5pm) starting on Saturday September 19th with a final event taking place on Sunday December 6th.
We aim to provide a minimum of 4 touch fields, event organisation and a playing structure with regular fixtures. Senior and improving players will be encouraged to advance into Bucks Touch and as they develop as players, play competitive touch within the Touch Singapore, FIT structure.
Our aim is to run these weekly festivals on a non profit, minimum cost ethos.
An indicative cost of $300 per team will provide for:
10 weeks of competition
Pitch and equipment rental
Match officials
Game and match day management
Bucks Touch Social Membership
Entry to December Cup Competition
We anticipate a "Fun" based approach with "Pick up" teams to maximise participation.
Please download, complete and return the below form to confirm interest. Or contact us at: touchfestivals@buckstouch.com
We hope to see you soon for some fun developmental touch!!
Hopbacks Match Report
Hopbacks v Bedok B
A must-win much for us, turned into a just-win, 6-5. An excellent performance, given that we were denuded of our normal ladies by the contemporaneous Margaritas match. Fortunately we were bolstered by the flower of Bucks girlish youth, and together with the usual old blokes, Sylvia, Mairaidh, Sophie, Jo, Rachel and Amber helped forge a magnificent if overly close win. Thank you young ladies, you will be welcome back any time.
Said old blokes were responsible for all the tries, with Clive nabbing two, Aidan shooting to the top of the scoring charts with his fifth of the season, and Simon sneaking another.
Try of the day was undoubtedly scored by Rob D, who, having unexpectedly found himself over the line, proceeded to give a masterful impression of a pantomime carthorse failing to clear Beechers Brook in the Grand National.
He rose...he fell...he disappeared.............and then rose again from the bottom of the off-field ditch, with a hearty wave, big Welsh cheesy grin and some scratches. Bravo.
That makes 5 tries, so I have forgotten one. Will the missing try-scorer please make themself known. Otherwise I will steal it.
Cheers, and here's to a rousing first half performance tomorrow.
Followed by an even more rousing second half one.

05 May Bucks Touch Missive
A few honourable mentions from last Saturday/a general round up of things I saw.

Bon Voyage to Emma.
The Darksiders tried to get her a try on the last day but to no avail.
Best of luck!
- Is "Miss Trina" putting on weight perhaps? She has certainly gone up in kit size or so I am told. Anyway, despite the alleged extra pounds, she put the afterburners on and scorched through to score in the first half against UWC mixed.
- Not to be outdone, the ever tardy "Giggles" Maylene, stepped her oppo with great panache and touched down in the second period helping secure a good result for the oldies over the youth.
- The Hopbacks also earned a good result against a Bedok side that trades as B grade but looks remarkably similar to the A side apart from maybe "Frosty" and "Mrs (not quite so) Frosty". The teams were playing on a makeshift pitch with a very small try zone. The highlight was Rob Devine doing a Forest Gump whilst scoring a try and promptly running into a ditch and disappearing from view. He was uninjured judging by the big "I have just scored" grin and celebratory hands in the air emerging 10 seconds later. There was good support to from three teenagers sent over from Centaurs to reinforce both the Hopbacks and the Mojitos.
- The Goldens rode their luck well and squeezed a narrow victory 11-2 against the IPA's. The whistle went just as the fight back was about to start ...... ish.
- We welcomed Ming Wong, a Bucks stalwart from the contact side, for his first ever game. He has been meaning to play for at least 5 years. He settled in well - certainly equal in pace to the IPA's (except JP) and proved a worthy competitor until the heat and pace of the game reduced him to a gibbering wreck found half asleep on his kit bag at the final whistle. It gets easier mate - but not that much.
- Kit - I will try to bring the kit Wednesday night to training and Saturday. We have new "logo'd" ladies shorts and also spares for the guys. Most new shirts have nicknames for the longer serving players - otherwise you have "Bucks" on the back. Anyway, you will look terrific.
- Polos - we have new ladies and mens polos. A very stylish affair similar to the Asian Champs top from last year. We have decided to charge in view of the shortage of funds over the next few months. Sing 30 Bucks. Social members can have one as part of their deal.
- Coaching - we will be looking to introduce some training for those who want to participate. Watch this space for details.
- Bangkok - seems the competition is going ahead. It is now time to commit. Dan has emailed on this. Basically, you have to book flights and we will collect the comp fees. Details to follow shortly. Date 20/21 JUNE.
- Sunday Brunch at Wine Garage - details to follow. It is Margaret's leaving do, so an important club function.
Pip pip,
Simon Stacey
